Thanks. The Telecom was on special with the Warehouse for $699 but out of stock online. There were 16 at Manukau but couldn't be bothered driving all the way into Manukau. Found the 2degrees version at warehouse stationery online for $699 so grabbed that. My 256 days starts from Monday ;-)

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Hehehe! My phones tend to stay stock for about 2 weeks before I get bored and onto the custom ROM path!

@hairy1: I've read a lot of people say you should flash the modem from the Telecom phone for better performance on the frequencies they use (if you're a Telecom customer)

As is the way with the forums though, no one ever has any solid evidence to support this suggestion, so I can't tell you if it carries any weight. Given that it's so easy to do though, can't hurt, especially if you find you're having issues with signal strength.

I haven't used Telecom specific modem since I flashed a few days after getting the S3 and haven't had an issue, others may have their own view.

I should add I'm in Auckland so signal strength never seems an issue but even when I'm out of Auckland I've never had an issue either

Curses, my S3 has suffered the sudden death.

Now, I had a look around the Samsung website for support (figuring that would be at least as fast as going through Playtech - either way I'll be sending it from Wellington to Auckland).

Their support site is very low on feedback, so I just wanted to check if anyone else has dealt okay with them. In particular, I set up a service request okay, and it tells me how to package everything up, but no address :( I did find their Auckland service centre from another part of the website, but I'd feel reassured if anyone else here has sent a phone to them for repair (and got it back).

I went through all kinds of hell dealing with them. Be prepared for them to send the whole lot back once they find the phone was sold through Playtech. I'd never recommend going direct to Samsung unless there is absolutely no other choice. In your case, you should be taking the phone back to Playtech to sort out.

Had you upgraded to 4.1.2, the offical samsung version? This was supposed to fix that problem I thought.

Thanks for the warning!

And no, I haven't got the 4.1.2. upgrade. It was 4.1.1

I don't think any of Telecom/Voda/2Degrees S3s have the 4.1.2 update, though hopefully it should be very soon.

Mine's on a custom S3 and running like a champion. I'm on 4.1.2 so hopefully "sudden death" has  passed me by.

I see a page back that a couple of people received updates but didn't say telco but maybe updates are there somewhere but haven't heard anything else but I'm on custom anyway.

As an aside I see they are now saying the new bootloader maybe needed to stop SDS but only if you use download mode to flash.

Also a good thread in XDA Developers forum on some research being done here , for those that are tech savvy and/or interested

Jeepers, I thought that all was needed was the 4.1.2 fix now included in some kernels and an updated recovery, and the bootloader wasn't required. Now they're saying the bootloader is required?

Okay, more reading Laughing
