Don't do it man! Wolfson + micro SD + removable larger capacity battery + GLONASS + better GPU. The announcement may have underwhelmed a little with how silly expectations got but it is clearly a better phone than the One X overall.

I like it. In that weird, used to be a high school hottie but is now ravaged by time and too much booze but still oddly hot, kind of way.

I had high hopes for something magical, well maybe not magical, but something that would make other designers stand up and think that Tim Cook isn't the only guy in the world capable of crushing young designers hopes and dreams. Unfortunately it does seem a little underwhelming.

We all knew the screen was going to be high resolution and that there was going to be a quad core processor. It's a shame about the camera resolution (regardless of the software tweaks, any photographer worth their salt knows that it's the glass that makes the man...).

The form factor is the odd sour lolly part for me. It's not what i'd consider beautiful, and the home button certainly has its plusses, but aesthetically I think it looks like a blemish. Physical buttons can still exist, but maybe under the surface so they're not overtly the primary button on the device. It plays tricks with the HID part of my brain when it doesn't/won't (probably) turn the screen on.

I'm absolutely stoked that they gave us a bigger battery. That, coupled with the higher spec processor, *should* mean we can get more battery life out of general day-to-day use, and maybe even be apples-for-apples when compared to the now lower end devices out there.

Micro SD slots are a must. I just can't imagine the hardware extras cost that much, nor the physical additions to form, for them to not have them in every device. Although, offering a 64GB option certainly alleviates the need for one now doesn't it...

The wireless charging is excellent. My S2 dock only just works with a clear skin on the phone, it certainly won't work with a case on. This way I would be able to have the S3 charging overnight, showing the time, whilst still in a protective case. Most excellent.

In any case i'll have to give it a serious look as a replacement to my S2, but only when the prices have settled... I learnt that lesson with the S2 very clearly.

It looks like someone took one of Samsung's lower end phones and blew it up to a 4.8 inch form factor and put some better specs in it..

Ah yeah I also forgot GLONASS, that should make GPS a lot more accurate. Man I'm pumped about the Wolfson DAC!

Haha, I guess I could have a 3rd Galaxy in the family + the One X!

Yeah, I guess the larger battery will make a huge difference, my mind is torn in half at the moment. Reading through Techradars review at the moment

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

When I made my comment, I had seen only the hardware spec mentioned and by the time I was done with the Event I was actually pretty blown away. This WILL be my next phone.

Biggest let downs were the screen (No plus though I think that's a supply and price issue) and just overall, I wanted to be sitting with my jaw on the ground which I wasn't. Having said that, it's still the most impressive bit of phone kit released to the public at this point. Some of the software functions look slick, the hdmi sender, nfc, and the screen on whilst looking at it, are great enhancements... Camera improvements are worth it too.

I just wanted something to be so advanced that Apple would be playing catchup for a year.

I predict it will outsell the iphone ongoing from this point.

I agree Kiwitrc what were the expectations

have to say its interesting seeing the comments here and other forums however some I think are just fueling the fire, like this:

be interesting to see how long the GS3 holds its price compared to the HTC given the huge drop the Sensation had compared with the GS2.

Apart from the bland design, seems a lot of people are disappointed with the pentile screen.

I don't know why certain people hate on the SAMOLED HD pentile screen so much?! I've got the Galaxy Note, and it's the best screen I had ever seen on a mobile device (at the time) when I bought it.

On another note, @NZtechfreak I enjoyed your One X overview and the comparisons to the GNote. If the screen is as good as you say, the One X might just be 'my next'. Or maybe wait it out for the GNote 2 :D

Pretty sure Samsung haven't had locked boot loaders for years? Even my old i5700 didn't have a locked bootloader

Don't get me wrong, the S3 is a very nice phone which I would be proud to own (much better than my ancient HTC Desire) but what I was hoping was:

1. The physical design. I was hoping it'd look gorgeous in the way the iphone 4 did when it was first displayed. I'm an android fan but I still think the iphone 4/4s is physically the best looking phone.

2. I wish they'd made touchwiz prettier. Touchwiz I find ugly and if I prefer sense.

3. I hoped the camera would be unmatched. Something like 12 megapixel f 1.8 or something. From what I've read the camera in the S3 is on par with the other high end phones but I was hoping it'd be better.

I wanted Samsung to pull something incredible out of the bag that was indisputably better than the rest but for me the delivered a great high end phone that's on par with the rest.

I think my expectations were too high but I blame that on Samsung's hype machine :-)
