nzviking: just got a phone call from my brother from noel leemings, the white telecom i had pre ordered is now in question as to it's delivery date, according to telecom, both white and blue are delayed now, only VF ones seem to be going live on the promised date...

Spoke to WHS today and the friendly chap says i shall get mine most likely on the 31st...possibly 1st via shipping.

bmt: Has the release in NZ always been the 31st? I was under the impression it was the 29th.. when I went to the Vodafone site to check my email and saw the little countdown I'm sure it had x days to go which equalled the 29th. Now I see its 1 day 12 hours, so midnight crossing from 30th to 31st.

Yes. 29th for UK/Europe. 31st for us.

I think Vodafone will only have a limited number of devices that will be available at the midnight launch. Will be a lot of disappointed customers who is queueing on the night for this device. Let just say they have 30 of the S3  in Auckland store...hmm.. I wondered how many did Vodafone had on the first shipment.

I'm developing insomnia slowly as the launch day slipping like melting butter lol.

my brother gave me the option of switching to a VF white version if i want one on launch day. he has been talking to brightstar and the nz telecom distributors today, they say no go for either white or blue telecom phones, all available units were diverted to aussie...

unless something changes between now and the 31st, I am going to have to wait for a XT SG3, 2degrees and VF coverage here in new plymouth for 3g etc is spotty at best, XT is apprentley rock solid, so gonna wait :(

avecha: Question - If i swap to 2degrees can i keep my Vodafone number?
I know it's only $30 but i don't really wanna pay for a micro sim to stay Voda.

While on the subject of micro sims, what's the general consensus about how people with a standard sim will achieve this?

I guess there are three options;
1. cut it down yourself, with scissors - cost $0
2. purchase a cutter and do it yourself - $25 for a cutter I believe
3. buy a micro sim - cost $30

Don't see the point in going through the process of buying a cutter for $25 when you can just buy a new sim for $30.

I'm tempted to just cut it down myself - as long as you don't cut the metal parts, how hard can it be ?

or on trademe

This is a lot cheaper and it is also useful as you can use the adapters to use a micro sim in a normal sim slot

Happy to spend $1000 on a phone, $250 on accessories, not happy to spend $30 on a proper sim?

Time effort and petrol will come to more than $30 even at minimum wage!

Probably because it is a blatant rip off. People generally don't like being ripped off.

It's not hard to use a scalpel and cut it to size. If you have a scalpel, that is...

Best thing to do it spend $11 and just order the tool on Trademe and have it sent to your house. The means you don't even have to make a trip to pick up a sim. Thankfully I ordered my tool when I pre-ordered my S3 so I will be all ready for the chop when my phone arrives.

If anyone in Wellington need the tool mine should be here later this week.
