Jaycar. Quite a common thing. About $25. Needs the Prolific drivers to make it work.

Edit: Normally just called usb-to-serial or usb-to-db9

The pinout may be different on that "nul modem" USB adapter.

I know I have had to hunt down some pinouts for getting console on a crappy linksys switch I have here since it didnt work on a normal straight thru cable.

You want USB -> Serial

Null Modem refers to a specific serial cable with specific pinouts (RX -> TX etc)

Jaycar sells both the USB->Serial and the Null Modem/Straight Through Serial Cables. If you need it for a switch console then the switch will usually come with one. Console cables for network devices tend to be either straight through or rollover (Cisco). Just find the manual for the device.
