Looking at getting a new laptop. Will only be used for general web surfing and possibly some netflix streaming etc.

Really want it to have a 1080p screen, which most laptops I've looked at are 768..

Also an ssd is a must. 128gb minimum.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

At that price point I think I'd recommend ex-lease. Especially if you want a 1080p screen and an SSD.

If budget goes up to about $1250 an HP Probook with the current $100 cashback is a great deal for a very solid laptop.

I’m on the lookout for something similar for my son for school next year, but ideally with a 360 hinge and touch screen.

Found this via PriceSpy from PB Tech. An i3, and not the newest, but it has a 1080 screen and 128 SSD, and seems like it‘s a lot of computer for a small amount of money. Has anyone else experience of this model?

Asus is generally a good brand. Check Amazon for reviews of that class. I find that the screen hinges or the display are usually the things that fail on laptops, so I wouldn't buy a 360 type hinge myself.

I nearly forgot to check out Dragon PC. Have just had a look and found some really good options from what I can tell. I have heard great things about the Ryzen desktop cpu's, Are the Laptop ones any good?

I've had better experiences with Asus than Acer. On those two links, the more you spend the better the specs. Ryzen 3 / 5 are good, and very good value.

Acer is pretty much the hardware equivalent of Trustpower or MyRepublic. Just don't.

Buy HP business grade gear, new if you can, ex lease if you can't.

Think I'm going to go with the last link. Asus with the Ryzen 5. Pretty good specs for the price I reckon!
