Not sure if it is the TV or SKY but noticing blur on sports coverage. It seems to be most noticeable when the ball being used is white. Cricket ball in ODI's, 20/20 or soccer ball on EPL. It even occurs when there is a long punt in a super 15 game.

I am watching on a Panasonic 50inch ST Plasma

Is it because SKY broadcast in 1080i? I thought maybe it was because overseas feed but can see in Super 15

Or is it a TV setup issue?

Sky bitrate issue. Watch the hideous mess on Prime's braodcast of Super 15. Looks absolutely vulgar. I measure Prime DVB-T transmissions at about 3 Mbps but it looks like the DVB-S mpeg2 transmission is being fed to the encoders. I dumped Sky in 2008 as won't tolerate a total disregard of image quality and their technical ineptitude for the sake of making money.

Why do people on this site seem to blame everything on 'bitrate' lol

Most definitely a TV setting issue I would say.

IFC (Intelligent Frame Creation) to be exact.

Most Panasonic's I've seen with this setting turned on seem to have trouble predicting the flight of the ball in most sports.

TVs only display what they are given. Maybe I blame bitrate because I measure the bitrate and observe it to be way lower than it should be and note how vulgar the images are. To blame Sky's hideous debauchery (and that's the best description for most of their transmissions) on the TV is just pure ignorance.

Spyware: TVs only display what they are given.

Have you heard of Motion interpolation?

So how do measure Sky's bitrates & what should they measure in your view?

Motion interpolation isn't exhibited as visible macroblocks producing images devoid of any detail. If you bother to watch Sky's transmissions from close enough the lack of detail and macroblocking is quite evident. And it is quite evident that bitrate parameters being used are totally inadequate and intended to be so.

It's not macroblocking.

I can produce the same result as original poster on my Panasonic if I turn on IFC while watching sports, yet with IFC turned off it's perfect.
Nothing to do with bitrate (compression).

What bitrate do you measure Sky Sports 1 at btw?

This, today, is totally wrong.

So you dumped Sky in 2008, so how do you currently measure the bitrate now on Sky's pay channels you so much detest - and why would you bother other than to just moan here?

No image blur on SS1 or 2HD here, using an older 42" HD Ready Panasonic that has no fancy image reality stuff.

I can concur with hypnotoad and others, the motion enhancing algorithims of all manufactures are piles of poo, turn them off and try get the display get a close as it can to displaying what transmitted. Some models still have some level of temporal processing that cannot be turned off, always a good reason to not purchase the top shelf (read $) products.
