Hi all,

I've poured through the forums but have been unable to find the answer myself, so now I call on you ... Nokia N95, parallel imported, latest firmware.

Basically, I get a "packet data : packet data connection not available" when trying to check email on the n95, or do anything through the VF NZ Internet connection. However, this is basically the only thing that doesn't work.

PXT works. :)
WAP works. :)
VLive works pefectly. :)
Gmail app and eMSN app both work when choosing VF NZ Gateway as the connection.

However when trying to connect to check pop email or anything that involves VF NZ Internet connection I get the ""packet data : packet data connection not available" message. POP email won't work through VF NZ Gateway - times out, but that's expected.

This happens regardless of whether using GPRS or 3G, and regardless of whether i'm at home or in the city.

What I've tried :
- the settings as per the sticky in the geekzone vodafone forum
- downloading all the settings again directly on the phone
- downloading all the settings again over-the-air from the Nokia website
- changing the APN for the VF NZ Internet connection from "www.vodafone.net.nz" to "internet"

The problem is the VF NZ Internet just won't connect ... but I don't understand why, given that VF NZ Gateway is using packet data also??

Worth noting - I know the email settings are correct as they work perfectly when using the wireless connection. 2 different pop accounts with 2 different providers.

I used to have a SE V700 and basically had a similar issue there - unable to check pop email on it - which eventually i just gave up on.

I've read on some international sites that maybe my carrier needs to enable something on my SIM? But that seems odd given that wap etc work. Is it possible I need to ask Voda to enable something on my card?

Prepay SIM2, upgraded when SIM2 first came out, had number since 99.

As stated, I've been through the forums as much as possible before posting and nothing obviously similar has jumped up at me ... any and all help would be appreciated!! Its such a minor thing, the n95 is such a great phone, would just love to get this working!!!

If you have credit call customer service and ask if the " * " unverified APN is on your connection

Sounds like all services through the live.vodafone.com APN are working but not www.vodafone.net.nz

This would mean the APN " * " is missing

If you had this problem with a previous handset, I would contact Vodafone and ask them to check that your account is authorised to access the APN - or have data access in the account.

Hi all ...

Just an update on this in case anyone ever has something similar ... the cause of my problems was indeed that the " * " unverified APN was missing ... this has now been resolved and all is working well ... many thanks for your assistance here!!!

As pointed out by johnr, the correct answer is just in the reply posted before yours. Didn'y you read the whole discussion, and more importantly, the last post?

Ok this is interesting though: ninjabear may be onto something.

How about if your 'packet data' connection comes and goes?  Does that mean the "*" APN is missing?

I have a Nokia E70, which is functionally similar to the N95 (both S60 3rd Ed), and at random times my packet data will go AWOL.  Nothing will connect until I either reboot the phone, or bring the radio stack down and back up again by changing my clock settings from "network update" to "manual".

PLEASE tell me this has something to do with Voda's network, and is not just my dodgey phone?

This could be the network, or the phone...

The original problem in this thread is that Vodafone had a misconfiguration for antant's account. As soon as they changed that on their side, all was ok, as confirmed by antant a few hours even before your post.

That's why I asked if you had read the whole discussion.
