"What if I don?t want to upgrade to the newest version of Yahoo! Mail? You will have the option to access your mail through Yahoo! Mail Classic." This just means that if you do not like the new version, you can use the current version. "web mail service which they are promoting to the very edge of deception." You need to learn about email, Cameltrain. You can use an email client, no problem. Or you can access your email direct to the ISP mail server, that is webmail. Webmail can be accessed on any online PC, anywhere. Examples are Yahoo Promail, Microsofts Hotmail, Googles Gmail, or in fact any ISP's webmail interface. You can use an email client, or webmail, or both. Whatever suits the users needs. Cheers

I access my xtra email address using Thunderbird and the POP3 server. Occasionally there is the requirement to check email on the road via webmail, so I assume from the posts above I can change (or not) to the new Promail version on my laptop and that will have little to no impact on my normal use via Thunderbird/POP3. I suggest to check the setting to retain messages at the server in TBird so that TBird will get all emails and not delete them from the server (Promail). That will avoid emails "go missing" in Promail should anyone at home open TBird.

I guess what I'm asking is can I treat my Xtra account (via webmail/promail) like I do my GMail and Hotmail accounts and have them all centralised to one inbox? It has taken a while to dawn on me that the main difference for me between IMAP and POP is that IMAP leaves the email on the server and POP downloads and removes it. Sorry if this is steering away from the OPs question, but it is kind of related, and I didn't think required a whole new thread. I use Yahoo on the iPhone as per the Mail Settings, Add Account, select Yahoo just enter username and password. Promail is merely web access to your mailboxes on the Yahoo mail server. I don't know the technical means as to how that works on the iPhone, or what protocols etc, but my iPhone4 inbuilt account for Yahoo mirrors Promail. The emails are the same the unread is the same and the other Promail folders are the same. If I have Push on, the iPhone4 mail notifys me the same time that Promail would. In that respect the Yahoo Account on the iPhone4 is the mobile version of Promail. Its not the Yahoo Promail interface shown on the iPhone4. Am I confusing this? Does Android allow you to select various mail account ssuch as Yahoo, Gmail, etc and just enter the username and password?

You can have gmail pop your Xtra mailbox, that will centralise all your email into your gmail inbox. Use the account wizard, its able to work out the pop/smtp details automatically. But won't delete them from the server. The alternate is their imap push client which does. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.yahoo.mobile.client.android.mail

Unfortunately I want the centralised mail app to include my Yahoo!Xtra email instead of having to open an additional app. Incidentally I downloaded the YMail app but it doesn't appear in the apps drawer, the only way I can find it is by going to 'My Apps' in Market. I remember something on the initial phone setup for Yahoo, but I can't seem to access it now (and there's no way I'm doing a factory reset just to get YMail). I tried the 'add account' function in the android mail app, but am unsure of the settings to use. Having entered *****@xtra.co.nz as the username and my password, I am then unsure as to the server it should be using, the wizard defaults to xtra.co.nz. It also gives the option of IMAP/POP. Maybe I should just leave it on POP, but I want the messages to stay on the server (there doesn't seem to be a selectable option for this). I have tried imap.mail.yahoo.com and mail.yahoo.com as alternatives for the server but still nothing. I don't really want to use GMail to aggregate my email, I would prefer to keep them separate. I feel like I might need to start a thread in Android forum, though this one still feels more appropriate. Disregard my comment about being unable to find the app. It was under 'Mail' rather than Yahoo (although I swear I looked at every page, wife would call it a 'Man's Look'). It seems to work like a light version of Promail/Ymail. I have got it working on my phone's Mail App using the pop and smtp settings for the xtra servers, and some test runs seem to be leaving the messages on the server as I wanted. I was gunna say :) The default mail client on my Froyo build auto-deteced it all for me. All I had to do was enter my email address. (I know the server detils but never had to enter them) It interrogated the server, got the details then asked for my PW etc It may vary between builds. I was running both the onboard and yahoos client together, but the different timed reminders got to me.
