Why would Telecom remove it's equipment off a 5 storey building and replace it with a cell site as per the below news article. I would have thought this would have an untoward effect on coverage in this area?

it wont be a capacity issue as that is normally handled by an upgrade to the cabinets not the antenna.
based on a standard stud height and if the building is 5 storeys you would be looking at around 15-20m building and they have built a 25m tower so maybe it was to improve reception?

or the land lord could have just been sick of all the antenna on his building and and wanted them off.

there are all sorts of reasons.

Pay to have a cell on a building owned by someone else or put it on land you already own

What would you do?

Yeah, they have put a few at the exchanges around napier also.
I reckon its the site lease cost.

Hi tritex,

Had a chat to the guys. We couldn't secure the lease again for the building. However with the relocation there is now a W2100 carrier added and this will speed up data rates.
