Hello, I have the following DSL sync stats: Modulation Type:ADSL_2plus (configured as MultiMode) Status:Up Downstream Rate:21062 Kbps Upstream Rate:1021 Kbps Downstream Noise Margin:12.8 dB Upstream Noise Margin:13.1 dB Downstream Attenuation:5.0 dB Upstream Attenuation:3.2 dB Downstream Power:12.4 dBmV Upstream Power:16.1 dBmV Any download (and a speedtest from zeus.jetstream.co.nz) doesn't go above 12-13Mbps. Have tried with a TG585v7 and with a WAG310G. Even with multiple downloads the total speed doesn't go above 12-13Mbps. According to Telecom Wholesale I'm also in the VDSL2+ zone so I should be fairly close to the cabinet. I don't have any phones connected (I have VoIP) and there's a filter before the ADSL modem. I have interleaving off by default on my 60GB plan ($105/month). Any ideas/recommendations? Thanks.

Hello, Vodafone speed test result: Download Speed: 5666 kbps (708.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 693 kbps (86.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 54 ms 13 September 2011 8:26:02 PM NZST Immediately after I did another one on zeus.jetstream.co.nz and got about 7Mbps down with 0.81 up. The download speed seems to vary depending on the weather maybe? :) Thanks.

Have you tried this one? http://speedtest.telecom.co.nz/ Your line stats are excellent - do you know that you are off a cabinet, and not off a very close exchange? Might make a difference... What OS are you using and what service pack level? It shouldn't make a difference with most modern OSes, but there are parameters in some older OSes that can limit throughput where there's high latency (high as in above LAN speed) Cheers - N

Yes, I believe zeus.jetstream.co.nz is the same with speedtest.telecom.co.nz (or similar anyway). According to telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps I'm connected to a cabinet. The OSes shouldn't be a problem, I have two macbooks with the latest Lion and the wired computer runs the latest ubuntu (hast the latest patches installed). < joke > Maybe it's slow because I'm not running Windows :) < /joke >

I had a similar issue. I was only getting 300KB/s tops until I changed out my filter connected to my router. With a new filter I get a consistent 2.3MB/s. I've also heard of problems with people using phone cable extensions to their router. Maybe try connecting it directly in to the filter without the extension cable if you happen to be using one. :) Sometimes what you don't get it a blessing in disguise!

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I tried 3 different filters and without a filter at all (I don't have an analog phone connected). Very similar sync speeds and attenuation, similar download results. I don't have an extension from the filter to the modem, just a ~ 1m patch cord. Cheers.

Hello. I borrowed a high-end Netgear ADSL modem from a friend in the weekend and connected just my laptop through a cat6 cable on the gigabit port. Same result, download maxed out at 12-13mbps. Is it possible to have bad wiring but getting good adsl sync speeds and low attenuation? I have an old house but the wiring was redone a few years back (I assume that the telephone wires were also changed but I can't be sure). Cheers.

Most common issue where you have low attenuation and only modem across the line but significantly lower speeds than expected is a result of line stubs, this can only be fixed by rewiring the house so that the line only goes to one socket, and that has the modem attached. If you want other sockets to continue working for POTS/Voice then a central filter is also required. While the house wirig splits to several sockets then you will continue to suffer speed issues due to echos from the un terminated line sections. Other issues are high noise, but your line stats seem to show that is good. So my recommendation, find the demarc, remove all house wiring and either connect your modem there or run a new length of cat5e from the demarc to the modem socket and have that as the only outlet connecting to the line.
