Topic # 113303 13-Jan-2013 00:29 Send private message

I'm a new subscriber to 2Talk VoIP, and have set up a number of lines around our business (a luxury lodge) so that each room has its own phone with a unique phone number that can be used to receive calls during the guest's stay. I would also like to set it up so that guests in one room can dial an extension to dial guests in another room, as well as reach us at the lodge office, etc.

I have two base stations, a Siemens Gigaset C610IP and a Gigaset A501IP. Three phones are paired to the former, and six to the latter. For some reason, I can get the three on the C610IP to "extension dial" each other, but they cannot "extension dial" the phones on the other base station, and the phones on the other base station cannot extension dial at all. Is this an issue with the different base station, or is it a settings issue? Any help would be appreciated!

Are you talking about "Extension Dialing" as set up in the 2Talk live interface? If so that should be just like dialling another number to the Gigaset base station.

Yes, and that's what I'd have thought, but it gives me the signal like the number I'm calling doesn't exist.

How are you configuring all the SIP registrations if you've only got two base stations?

More information would be handy, as I can't get your head around what you're trying to do.

I have set up each base station with the same account information from 2Talk. Three handsets have been set up with the "one dial" system (so that their phone numbers are XXXX, XXXX-1, and XXXX-2). The other six handsets have been set up to have their incoming calls be restricted to a unique phone number (that is part of my account) that is more or less in the format "XXXX1", "XXXX2", "XXXX3" etc. It is these phones that cannot seem to reach one another, or the other phones in the system, using the extension dialling, even though for each of these phone numbers I have set up an extension in the 2Talk Live setting screen.

So you're trying to use one base station with 6 handsets and 6 different SIP accounts to handle 6 different rooms?

That's certainly not an approach I would take.

I have two base stations, one handling 6 handsets and the other handling 3. I would like to have five handsets set up in such a way that they only receive calls made to their unique phone number, and the other four set up to receive calls on a single, different phone number. I would also like each handset to have an extension so that any one handset can ring any other handset using a 3-digit number. Is there a way to do that?

This whole thing sounds confusing.

So you have 6 a510's with a DDI each? You can use the GUI to decide how to route each sip registration to each handset, the gigaset gui makes it very easy to do this. I dont like putting more than maybe 4 phones on base as you are restricted to only 2 active sip calls and one pots.
When you register handsets they are given internal extension numbers. So all the a510's will know what the other is doing and it should be possible to ring internally by dialling the single digit number of the handsets.
Then you have 3 c610's with only a single ddi? The three c610 will be able to ring each other by using the single digit gigaset extension number just like the a510's. And then in the 2talk interface you will set up extension numbers for each of the DDIs so that you can ring internally from the c610's to the a510's.
To let the a510 ring the c610 though you will need to put 2 more 2talk lines on to the c610 so that each handset has a ddi for you to set an extension number to because as far as 2talk is concerned there is only one 'phone' on the c610.

All in all a very confusing set up. If I were you I would set up an asterisk box to route calls and do the internal stuff. Will be a hell of a lot simpler and you can have a standard set of extension numbers and still use asterisk to route ddi's to the correct extension. If you go the asterisk route though make sure it is secure!!

It is confusing, and I have probably set this up in the most difficult way possible. But to start off, here's what I have:

1 C610IP base station
1 A510IP base station
1 C610H handset
8 A510H handsets

I have four phones that I use in our office, kitchen, lounge and laundry. I want these to receive calls on our main VoIP line, as well as on a unique number so that I can phone each of these handsets from outside if I need to reach a specific person in a specific part of the house. These phones all have an extension number (the last two digits of the unique VoIP numbers). Three of these phones use the C610IP base, and one uses the A510IP base.

I also have five guest rooms. I don't want the guest room phones to ring on our main incoming VoIP line, and I want them to dial out (if they ever dial out) on a unique line so I can see who dialled where from what phone, for billing purposes. I have therefore given each of these handsets a unique phone number, as well as a unique extension number (the last two digits of their VoIP number). All of these phones use the A501IP base.

I do not know what you mean by an asterisk box, I'm afraid, nor do I really know how to turn the other things you have suggested into action on my part to rectify my situation. While I am a total newb at this, I am pretty quick on the uptake, as long as you don't use acronyms, abbreviations or jargon to help me out!

I forgot to mention, I have set up the office, laundry, lounge and kitchen with one-number, so that they have both their unique number and an 'extension' of the main number.

I think you are getting confused by mixing internal gigaset stuff with external 2talk things. Have sent you a PM.

Make sure you have a decent connection, nothing worse than a guest complaining about bad quality and giving your lodge a bad name.

Thanks; our connection is excellent, and with high speed fibre coming shortly, we will be signing up for that as soon as possible, so the connection should even improve.

I cannot imagine we would ever need more than three. Two would be the normal max.

My recommendation would be a single Gigaset base station for each extension. Anything else is really just a hack.

If you wanted to get away with a single base station Snom would have been a better hardware choice.
