I need to bust a lazy staff member using the net while i'm out. Every time i goto use the internet the history has been deleted. I have disabled the options menu but in IE8 you can delete the history from the menu bar. BTW i'm using xp home so i cant use gpedit.msc to fix it. Any one know of another way?

You can try something like this, http://download.live.com/familysafety

IANAL but, you may have legal issues if you are tracking someones internet usage and you have not informed them that you have the right to check their usage, and install monitoring software.

rscole86 has a point there... You should have an Internet Usage Policy that clearly states "Employees should [not use] | [use limited] Internet resources provided by the company for personal business. The company may from time to time monitor your usage of these resources."

You don't have this, then you might be in for a surprise if an employee is busted and goes on to complain...

Yea the internet is not needed for the job its there for email use only and that is in the contact. I don't think there will be any issues I just need to know if / how much time is wasted. Cheers for the link i will have a play with that.

Do you suspect them of looking at anything in particular? Are there sites that you do not want them to look at, and you are not interested in them either?

You could add a list of sites to the hosts file.

Also, some programs have their own history, which may not have a date/time but will name sites. Eg, In your application data folder have a look for macromedia/flash player. Within one of the folders should be a list of any sites that use flash players for their content. There will be a lot of legitimate sites, like news/tech etc etc aswell as porn sites. If that is what you are having problems with?

Another thing to consider, if you want to block access to some sites is to either

a) get a router that does it for you or
b) install Windows Family Safety or
c) change DNS settings to opendns or dyndns, create an account and use their DNS servers - you can them block different types of sites based on content (porn, social networks, chat, etc).
