NonprayingMantis:What wouldyou rather have, non GM food that couldn’t be eaten because it perished and so millions starved,  or GM food that actually provides sustenance and nourishment and saves millions of lives?.

Good question... Think of all that people DYING NOW because they have no food, GM or non-GM.

GM is probably the best hope of feeding the starving.

Also if it were not for preservatives there would be more starving in this World as the goods sent to these 3rd World would spoil before they could be used.

cgrew: Also I think that the preservatives that are added in to GM foods to give them longer shelf life, is incredibly wrong.

Giving them a longer shelf life means they can be eaten.

*face-palm* Seriously, if you want to live a long & healthy life - I would highly advise not eating meat for example that has been dyed or chemically modified to obtain a longer shelf life - Or any food that has been for that matter.

cgrew: Some of the "wealth" that you refer to is astronomical though? There comes a point when it becomes rather concerning not to mention unfair.

Unfair to the point that people are still dying every 3 minutes in some of these third world countries, not to mention their governments are beyond corrupt and are slaughtering them. The solutions to this problem aren't getting resolved. It's inhumane.
Do you believe tehre should be a globally enforced limit as to how rich someone can get? So when they get there, they have to stop working, or work for free, or give away enough money to allow them to earn more?

Cheers - N

But then people come with ideas that GM food is some conspiracy to increase profits, and everything goes to custard...

There is a large percentage (not all) but an exceedingly large amount of GM foods out there, that despite their chemically enhanced additives to make them immune to those environments, studies are showing that long term these GM foods aren't doing the human body & nervous system any good...

And one day I may make that decision for myself (but since a well healed mate just bought me maccas it won't be today). In the meantime I suggest you contact those folks in the grips of a famine and tell them why your conscience can't support suppling them with available GM grain....

I object to the term "food" being applied to McDonalds!

The sad truth is that as long as we fail to address the central question of population any "solution" to hunger or energy or the economy is going to be temporary...and given we're at the going-straight-up part of the exponential curve right now, "temporary" is very temporary.

If we all agreed to have one child to replace each of us, the Earth's population would fall over 200 years to about 2 billion as a substantial part of each cohort in a generation doesn't / can't reproduce.

There need be no compulsion at all. It just happens naturally. If it wasn't for immigration the OECD would be heading toward a sustainable population already.....

The UN began a program over 30 years ago to address the causes of over-population. Where it was implemented it saw some considerable success. The biggest obstacles are religionists who see rational choices about reproduction as evil and grinding poverty leading to rampant disease that in turn demands reproduction be maximised in order to ensure some survive.

Yes, the #1 thing you can do for the environment is to not have any children. However, most of us (myself) included don't wish to make that sacrifice.
It really irks me when I read and ear talk of 'growth' being a good thing, and a flat (or stable) economy is considered a recession. It can't go on this way for ever, with infinite growth.

I just had a real good look around Claire Swinney's site and all I can say is WOW. She needs help. She's waaaaaaaaaaaaay down the paranoid rabbit hole, going by all the other stuff she's been sucked into.

Sadly though, going by the comments on her site (that she has allowed through), this stuff does click with people.

what you guys think? true or not true

I think that is like saying that Big Macs are effective at repelling sharks...ever seen a shark at McD's? No? Well, there you go.

Honestly, I love conspiracy theories. It never ceases to amaze me how people can come up with the most round about, complex way of explaining something.
