Hey all,

I have an ANZ USD travel card. After a trip to the States last year most of the transactions that we carried out in the States were charged a currency conversion fee. After a week of calls and a pretty frustrating experience with ANZ (the standard customer services team didn't seem able to deal with this) it all got sorted and I had a whole lot of transaction fees refunded. Fast forward 12 months and it has been happening again with US currency transactions.

I have called ANZ yet again and someone promised to call me back but I haven't heard from anyone.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I am going to try and get the currency fees reversed, use the credit up on it and close the account. It is a good concept but in practice just doesn't work.....

Cheers, Matt.

My wife and I used a national bank one when we went to the states last year. I found it pretty handy for all things over there. However we never found an ATM that wouldn't add on another $3-$5 fee on top of the $2 (I think) fee. So we wasted a good $30-$40 on atm withdrawls. We limited the transactions to as little as possible but some have a limit of $200. Using it as a credit card was great though, nearly the same as having an american account. Couldn't use it on pre pay petrol pumps so usually had to pay cash for that. It was very reassuring locking in the exchange rate a few months before the trip though. Pity the exchange rate was only 0.70! Need to go back there cause it is so cheap!

Glad to hear that the National Bank Travel Card has no bogus fees charged to it.  I've just recently got one and started dumping thousands of USD on it for a couple of trips to the US this year...
