Hey Folks,

Just changed to an FS/FS plan.. im connected to an ADSL2+ enabled cabinet.. router stats below:

tem	Downstream	Upstream	Unit
SNR Margin	12	12	dB
Line Attenuation	6	2	dB
Data Rate	20358	649	kbps

I'm quite disappointed by the upload.. i thought it would over 1Mb/s? I have a Dynalink RTA130 not being used.. would that make a difference?

Bandwidth test shows i get 1400 kB/s constant download speed via RapidShare servers..

Is this likely to be the best im gonna get? Can the upload speed get higher at all? The cabinet is about 60 meteres away.

Your opinions please!

Hi, it seems a little odd, you should get closer to 1Mb/s, I would definitly try a broadcom chipset (RTA130 has that) and see if it improves., I assume you have done a complete isolation test incase some unforseen device is across the line that you have not realised.

Yeah your upload rate seems a bit low, Im 2km from my local exchange and getting about 850kbps but only 8mbps down.

Im using a D-Link 502T which are supposed to be rubbish for ADSL2+. Will defnitely put the Dynalink on to see if there's a marked difference.

Ill try it after work and see how that goes!

Theres a significant increase in the downstream speed, however the upstream speed has hardly increased. Is it possible that it's been fixed by the ISP?

Only one jackpoint active in the whole house. wait there is a sky jackpoint but ive taken that off the decoder.. that shouldnt make a difference? ADSL and 1 cordless phone via a filter going into the same jackpoint.

Unlikely its fixed, there normally are no limits on Fs/Fs plans. The sync speed is more likely limited by some notching effect thats killing some bins in the downstream spectrum. As I said do a complete isolation test, ideally go to the closest socket to the demarc, remove all wiring except the line from the demarc, connect to that and see what you get.

Just a test, what do you get if you limit it back to ADSL1

The jackpoint i use is directly next to the demarc, only one other jackpoint in the house which the sky tech put in for the sky digital disco'd the decoder.. unplugged the cordless phone too and same results.. im stumped on this one

i cant find the option to force to ADSL1? Easy to find in the D-Link but not sure on the Dynalink

But have you actually removed the wiring at the first jack that goes onto the sky box jack, so no other wiring is hanging on the line, ie the line comes form the DSLAM and to the modem no other wiring involved, if you do that and no change occurs then there I would say there is some issue with the setup of the DSLAM port.

I think the sky jackpoint doesn't come off the demarc.

I'm pretty sure the sky technician just ran the sky jackpoint wiring directly from the jackpoint my adsl is plugged into.

Would that make a reasonable difference? Dont really want to mess with the wiring in case i kak something.

If the ADSL is sharing the line with the phonejack via a splitter, then try plugging the ADSL into the wall by itself.

If you were going to have problems I'd have though up & down would both be affected, looking at your figures, I guess perhaps not.

See if there's any firmware updates for your devices, you never know...

If its a 502, I would suggest doing a firmware upgrade and see if that helps before bothering with any helpdesks.

They are up to firmware version 3.00 for the standard unit
or if it says Generation II on the front, they are up to version 3.02

I haven't reconnected the 502T since i have the RTA1320 still connected. Upgraded the firmware for that router and that was successful and still 660kbs.

I doubt the 502T will make a difference with the firmware upgrade. Iv'e decided to leave the RTA1320 on instead.

If there was a line problem as previously mentioned, then surely the downstream would be affected as well.

here's a current speedtest.

Perhaps give the ISP a call?

If you are using a external Adsl filter may I ask which one ? for myself dlink filter`s gave me lower upload sync rates compare to the dynalink filters atleast 200kbps more.

wow, i wouldnt have thought the filter would make a difference at all? im using the dlink filter .. probably at leat 3 years old.
