I was wondering what the best codec is for use with VFX and whether there is any way to adjust volume on VFX.  I have a Linksys SP2102 ATA.

I have read that you can get G711 codec with VFX - how do I know whether this is what I have or not?  And is it the best one anyway?

As a minor aside, I use SkypeIn to receive some international calls and have noticed that whilst I can hear just fine, the person on the other end cannot hear me very well (too quiet).  I have changed phones and tried to ask Skype about it as I am certain it really is their issue, if any of you have ever tried to communicate with Skype you will realise that this is a futile exercise as they 1. don't care and 2. don't reply....

Thanks in advance for your help

Regarding the codec change, talk to the Xnet helpdesk. They changed the codec on my SPA2102 remotely through the voice profile.

Not sure which one it is, may be G729? One of the Xnet guys would be able to elaborate on this..

You have G711 enabled on your current setup, If you logon to the 2102, you will have a setting to control the input level and output levels it will be under the voice settings tab.

To logon unless you have enabled WAN access you will have to logon to the lan side.

Thanks for the info - is that the best quality codec?

I'm away from home for a month or so but will try it when I get back - can I still alter the volume even though VFX is provisioning my service?

Thanks

Yes, we leave that parameter open so you adjust the volume if required, G711 is the best codec you can use with device, see how you go when you get back.

Thanks for the info - will have a look when I get home.  It's weird how it's only on skype calls but I guess it doesn't matter if all calls get turned up a little!

Skype is actually irrevelant as it has nothing to do with the workings of the SPA2102 and codecs,

I realise Skype has nothing to do with codecs or ATA but skype doesn't have customer support and my problem lies with Skype calls only, so I figured that turning up the mic for all calls may help when using Skype. I hear people fine but they tell me I sound a long way away. The codec question was for my own interest rather than Skype related.

Thanks again
