Can someone from Orcon confirm that the Orcon server listed on Speedtest.net is counted as zero-rated traffic against data usage?
What about for Orcon business customers?

Hi there,

A list of our zero-rated data services can be found here:

http://www.orcon.net.nz/support/gfaq_page/which_sites_are_included_in_the_o_zone

Our speedtest server is not zero-rated, although I understand the speedtest itself only takes around 5-15MB to run.

Cheers,

Cam

Ah, this explains why when doing lots of 100mbit fibre speedtests I used up a few more GB than expected.
This really should be zero-rated :(

How many were you doing? I'm wondering how much someone would have to do to use extra gigs.

Wow you must have been running them over and over again.
I setup a script to mimic a speedtest once it ran every 15min and used no more then 20gb per month.... but that was running 24/7 not manual tests.

This is on UFB fibre.

Doing the calculations (not infront of fibre connection right now) each speedtest takes around 10 seconds for testing up and down.
Say 85down and 45 up, thats just burnt through 162.5MB
I did around 20 tests, thats 3.2GB!!
And yes there was good reason to be doing that many tests.
