I ported my 020 number from Skinny to 2Degrees last Wednesday and by Thursday morning everything was working fine except i couldn't receive text messages from any network other than 2D. I called 2D and was advised Skinny hadn't disconnected me and they would sort it. Funnily enough Skinny hadn't disconnected me either (i checked) and that old Skinny sim was still working with the same number attached. I could text / call from both phones and they had the same number assigned. A few more calls later and Skinny disconnected the sim, shortly after a call from 2D advised it's been completed and the port is "closed".

I'm not going to go into every call but i have called 2D several times and been called back a couple but no one seems to know the issue or how to fix it, they have hinted it maybe because it's a 020 number.

I almost get the impression from 2D that because it's an 020 number it could take weeks to create a "fix".

Hoped someone here might know a little bit more about this.

I am told by our porting & provisioning team (but if the Skinny people care to correct me then they may feel free) that the Skinny porting process is completely manual. That means, for one thing, it takes a lot longer. It also means errors are a lot more likely.

The porting process is recipient-led, *but* the recipient can't take the number until the donor releases it. So if Skinny don't get around to releasing it to us (or anyone else) we cannot complete the process. The same applies to the other carriers - Vodafone & Telecom won't route your calls or messages to 2degrees until Skinny releases it either.

So, I'm not completely clear from your post - is it working now, or still broken? If it's broken still, then PM me your number and I will get it sorted out.

PM sent. And no receiving texts from other networks isn't working.

Just curious... if your number is so new; why did you port instead of getting a new 022? And why did you leave skinny?

I got a great number from Skinny, choose it myself and i can't say i've ever seen a better number plus i've already notified everyone so didn't really want to change it again.

Left Skinny simply because the lack of progress i consider they are making with things such as Short Code Text Messaging, WAP Portal for changing and buying plans or longer call centre hours. Basically if not near a PC it's almost impossible to buy a new plan after hours (unsure if it works on a smart phone as thats not what i was using) And the lack of been able to text message short codes is a bit annoying, means needing to use a second phone often for me.
