Warehouse Stationery has this phone for $59 until 21/12/12. Elsewhere it is priced at $79. Also included is a free $19 data bundle when first top-up loaded (as per the NZ Herald print ad this morning).

http://www.warehousestationery.co.nz/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/WSL-B2C-Site/en_NZ/-/NZD/ViewOfferDetail-Product?CatalogCategoryID=sPkKBTFxKpEAAAE0rcNfL49S&ProductUUID=lO8KBTFwUP4AAAE6JWQ42nSb&JumpTo=OfferList

I was not able to find more info on this model (beyond specs mentioned on the website), it is cheap replacement for a child's Vodafone 845.

Anyone have any history with this device or have any information to share?

I don't have any experience with it, but it looks pretty good for $59 - probably very similar to the 845

For a very low-cost Android it has a well sized 3.2? QVGA capacitive touch screen and a snappy 800MHz Qualcomm processor. 2degrees has sourced it from a Chinese manufacturer who works very closely with Qualcomm, who are one of the world?s leading Smartphone chip vendors.

Couldn't resist getting one for my son at that price. Won't know what it's like until Christmas day. Does the included SIM have any credit on it to begin with?

The ad says "free with first topup", so I'm guessing you would need to load some credit to get the $19 data bundle.

I picked up a phone as well, now need to find the correct forum at xda developers to put a custom rom on it.

The box states it's an "Enspire C8660NZ".

Can't find anything on the net so will be interesting when it gets fired up Christmas day.
Warehouse Stationery Glenfield only had three left, hidden out bthe back when I bought one yesterday, then they sold out online. Seems they have some more available online today at $59, free freight.

I picked up a couple today (last ones at the Warehouse Stationary) as christmas gifts. If they're crap then I'll probably flick them on TM instead

Can't find any info on them but did see a mention on a trademe auction that they are made by HTC but that's like saying I read it on the internet so it must be true.

I'm glad it's got a capacitive screen (are any phones sold these days with resistive screens?)

Screen size is what I would consider the minimum at 3.2" but the resolution looks a little light at 320 x 200.

still looks like excellent value at $59

Yes, it has wifi, bluetooth, and the 2D site states it has GPS so should run navigation. There are a few basic specs at the 2D site below. Also comes with a free $19 data combo once you top up the included SIM with $20 so pretty hard to go wrong I'd say. Has only 100MB internal memory. Not sure if that's RAM or storage (it'd be a buggar for performanceif that's all the RAM it's got) and comes with 2GB microSD card and supports up to 32GB.

Could 2Degreescare, Salty or someone else please advise how this "Free data combo with your first topup" works.

The checkout person at Warehouse Stationery had no idea, and there wasn't anything in the box about this. Should I have been given a voucher, or does it "just happen" when you first topup the included SIM which looks like any other SIM pack?

Hi

These SIMs have a different product type so when the customer tops up the system identifies it and adds the $19 Data Combo to the account. So you'll have the top-up PLUS the free $19 Combo!

Noice!

Looks like an interesting little phone. Who's the upstream manufacturer?

Far better than the VF845. that one had a resistive screen, the Smart Touch is full capacitive, great response time. Its actually a very robust device, and works more fluidly than any of the Samsungs in the similar price bracket. Comes with a 2GB SD card as well. For the money, best value out there right now.
