Napster, did you have to request the 17a profile or was that Automatic? When I tried to get my profile changed the guys at Chorus faults refused saying that I had to leave it to DLM to sort itself out.

Interesting! From what Chorus said it sounds like DLM may up you to 17a automatically! I had thought that this was only manually changed in special circumstances!

I have started a new topic: VDSL Performance & Tuning in order to collect all the useful information regarding VDSL speeds, stats & methods for improvement in once place.  I will be updating the first post in this topic with any new or updated information obtained.  Please feel free to contribute new information or corrections as you see fit.

Mine was setup manually awhile back. Not sure if this can be done today. Chorus had said that they wanted to let DLM manage the switch from 8b to 17a automatically. I don't think they have implemented this yet.

So it's still 8b for new VDSL circuits. Unless someone can confirm that DLM has been updated.

Today I connected to the Snap Internet VDSL Service.

I live 1 Km from the cabinet down the road.  On ADSL I had good down load speeds, but my upload speed was limited to .8 Kbit/s.  The Upload speed was the catalyst -  it's time for a change.

I went on the Chorus web site and they estimated  that UFB will be delivered to my home sometime in year 2019.  I did not want to wait that long for a solution!

Living so far away from the cabinet meant I had a borderline "Line Attenuation".  My Thomson Modem registered 9.5 dB up and 17.5 dB down.  The Snap web site could not give a definitive answer if I could get good VDSL connection.   When Snap did a pre qual the result

Line Attenuation showed   10.0 - 11.0 dB.  So as you can see I was pretty borderline.

Well that was situation 14 days ago when I put in my order for a VDSL connection.  I have noted some people experienced downtime during the changeover process so I ordered the new VDSL on the second line that comes into the house.  That way there is no interruption in service.  In fact right now I have both VDSL2 and ADSL2 coming into the house.  I have CAT6 cable from the ETP to the telephone jack on the wall.  Because I am using  a dedicated line for the new VDSL,  I do not have a splitter.

So here is my DSL information:

I am some what disappointed with the current throughput.  I had heard that quoted figures were  under estimated, but in my case they were not.   My ADSL2 was 16,264 so really my download has not changed at all.  The upload however is 7 times better and that was why I made the call to move to VDSL.  So that's a plus.

I will now monitor the changes over the next 10 days.

Yeah!!!  15 days post connection and Interleaving is off!!  Not liking those error rates tho :/  Hopefully it's good enough to keep interleaving off for good...

The backhaul must be pretty sweet now too as I'm getting 8ms to the gateway and 9ms to stuff.co.nz!

If after I get my line looked at, will it re-adjust to a better profile automatically or will it be something that has to be kicked off with another fault ticket?

Moving the sockets today as soon as I get around to going out and buying 2 new 2 wire sockets.

From what we have been able to ascesrtain, DLM is on permanently, not just for the first 10 days. The first 10 days is when minimum sync rate baselines are established, but DLM will make profile changes as necessary on an ongoing basis.  If your sync rates are significantly better after your wiring changes, you may want to ask for DLM to be reset and run again to establish better minimum sync rate baselines.
