LWJCarroll:

So that means it can be used for ADSL2+/VDSL2 and then fibre if it arrives later were ever you are or I guess move to...???

I read the review mentioned here and he said the same thing for the Aussie NBN aka fibre as it has the correct WAN port..(???)  100mbps...

It means a saving on connection charges I think if you don't have to close one and open another using new hardware etc....

Regards

Laurie

Yes - and when I spoke with Snap, they pointed this out.
ie.
(1) You own it (versus rent it)
(2) If you move, you can use it elsewhere.

I'm completely impressed with my move from Snap to Telecom (been with Telecom FOREVER - phone with them since 93, internet from day 1 when they had "xtr13....." usernames and logins, etc).
For $75/month plus a 1-off $59 fee (because I chose the 7390 over the 7340), I get:

(1) 30 Mbit/s up, 10Mbit/s down
(2) Standard 25GB allowance, but bonus 145GB (total 170GB) for next 12 months
(3) Free rental til December (ie 2 months free)
(4) Phone number ported over, so phones work as normal (via the FON1 port).

Very cool.

Does anyone know if you can connect a phone to one of the ports on the back via a gigabit switch?

I have uniden cordless phones which you can't use the 7390 as a dect base station as they use a different system. They do work plugged directly into the back though.

I can place the phone where I want near a network access point, but will it still work?

If I understand you correctly - you want to patch your phone via your Cat5 / 6 cabling?

If that's what you're asking - then yes. I do it myself. My uniden phone is patched to whatever port in the house I want it. Then I plug a standard phone cable from the patch panel directly to the back of the Fritz.

And yeah. It's a shame the Uniden phones don't implement the DECT standard. Would make life that little bit simpler. :D

I'm running 3 Uniden phones off my 7390 without any issues, They are a year or two old so possibly an issues with the newer ones maybe.

Uniden now make DECT phones, but 99% of them don't support GAP. The GAP standard allows different DECT phones and base stations, no matter what the brand, to work with each other.

Some of the unidens do work with other bases and handsets, but really with the quality of the handsets etc I would bin them anyway. Plasticy creaky echoey things.

Shame really since uniden is one of the few that make ones with repeaters in the chargers. But those ones dont work with anything else.

Personally I would go with Siemens phones - they also have repeaters available.

Dearer than a Uniden, but then you get what you pay for.

Well, I've got a 7390 and I must say, AWESOME. What I'm wondering is if I can make a VPN connection from this router to a VPN. If anyone could shed some light on how to do this, that would be fantastic.
