hi guys, was wondering if anyone has experience creating custom shortcuts with the app "AnyCut"? I'm wanting to have a method of toggling the 2G-3G feature, without resorting to: an app - as it will be listed in my 'menu' which is a PITA a widget - will constantly use ram/battery linking through to settings - leads to multiple clicks-throughs So basically i would like to use AnyCut to create a button which i click and it goes to 2G if its currently on 3G, and to 3G if its on 2G currently.... Soooo does anyone know how to use the Action, Data, Type fields in "make your own". Or even know of some resources for AnyCut - as i cant seem to find anything definitive Cheers Nathan

What are you trying to achieve? Asus eee pad transformer iPod 2G Windows 7 PC Lots and lots of Nikon camera gear

trying to achieve a one-click shortcut solution to switch the phone from 3G mode to 2G mode and vice versa (might have to be two seperate icons?) All others just open the relevent settings "page" Hope that makes sense?

saves a load of battery. and im lazy/annoyed that i have to go through like 3 screens to turn off 2G. seems a good idea to me - it just becomes an extension of the power control widget

I use a program that puts my tablet into flight mode when the screen's off... but that's probably not so useful with a phone eh? ;) There are all sorts of widgits in the android market that do things like that, did you do a search? I know you said you don't want an app or a widgit, but sometimes you need to be practical. Look at Juice Defender, it might help. Asus eee pad transformer iPod 2G Windows 7 PC Lots and lots of Nikon camera gear

using "quick settings" app at the moment.... its just a pain to have to keep going through the same settings menu. at the moment its click on shortcut, click on 3G, uncheck/check the "use 2g only' box, then click home button. Clearly, doing this any number of times in a day is a PITA... It sems that AnyCut has a very powerful "custom link" ability... i just have no idea how to use it, hence being on here.... I've searched for widgets that do somehting like this, but they all seem to just open the same method as quick settings does above... so its still 4 clicks or something. I just want a one click widget! which doesnt seem to exist

long press the home screen...choose shortcuts...choose anycut.... choose Activity...choose GSM/UMTS Options.

Data enabler does a 1 click method for the mobile data connection on/off function I want the same 1 click method, but to toggle between 3G and 2G. This may seem really weird, but my understanding is that when in 2G mode (even if the data connection is not on), the battery life will be improved compared to leaving it constantly on 3G. Now at the moment I manually change it over. I just want to simplify the process. Hope that makes sense

You understand correctly... saves 10% or more per 24 hours. Reducing the processor speed when idle saves more as well. The one click thing to switch between 2G and 3G is impossible... It's an Android problem. I think it has to do with tick boxes. So my post above using Anycut is the fastest possible way... one click to get there, one click to uncheck the tickbox, one click to return. This is Android 2,2, later versions may have fixed the problem.

IIRC it may be possible with CynogenMod on your phone. You can enable a number of toggles in the notification bar (a la SGS) and one of the possibilities is 2G/3G. Your Nexus One should support CynogenMod ROMs. Bit more work than a widget but there are other benefits :-) HTC One X (AOKP Jelly Bean), on 2degrees

switchpro is also a great widget that offers this. It won't use up too much RAM on the device either.

hold down your finger in a blank space of the home screen, and hit shortcuts or widgets. There's lots of options. Have a play. I tried anycut, until I found the above mentioned steps.
