Telefonica of Spain to distribute i-mode applications
The new services will be introduced shortly and users can subscribe or pay per use. New mobile phones will be made available, with seamless access to this new service. Models include NEC N223i, NEC N341i and Mitsubishi M222i.

Telefonica claims to have more than 7 million registered users of mobile internet access (GPRS), being 1.5 million actually active in the system, downloading more than 50 million pages every month. The service was first launched in 2000, and now will have added multimedia messaging, logos, ringtones, news, games.

More than EUR 10 million were invested in R&D including porting the technology supplied by Japanese NTT Docomo, original creator of i-mode.

Traffic on 'MoviStar e-moción' will be charged to the user's GPRS allowance, with EUR 0.024/kilobyte if the subscriber has no contract or the limits were exceeded.

As an initial bonus, every customer will have EUR 5 every month during summer. Corporate customers will have free access to the service between 26 June and 17 July 2003.
