As reported in our previous story, all 1,800 citizens and residents of Niue, an island nation in the South Pacific, now have free wi-fi access to internet. And all visitors too.
The news of free wi-fi for all in tiny Niue in the South Pacific made it to the Slashdot news site. And that was the first time an entire nation access to the internet was slashdotted.
The "Slashdot Effect" happens when a website makes it to the headlines of Slashdot, and the servers can not cope with the number of visitors this "appearance" generates. Apparently the entire Niue internet structure was down for a while.
