Emblaze systems releases results of O2 video streaming trial
Emblaze Systems claims as a success the 02 commercial pilot of video and audio over mobile using Emblaze’s managed end-to-end video solution. Two hundred and sixty two customers used the O2 GPRS network to browse, select and download video clips via a special portal set up by Emblaze.

The pilot focused on three principal areas: streaming video, downloading clips and video messaging. For the video over mobile trial, Sky provided breaking news clips three times a day. Sports and movie trailers were the next most popular categories

Customers involved in the trial were particularly impressed with the ease of use of the video streaming services, scoring the service at 7.9 out of 10. 94% of trialists had demonstrated the service to friends and family. 45% of trialists were likely or very likely to use a commercial service if it was reasonably charged.

“The trial has proved an excellent means to engage our key target audiences as well as gather their views and preferences regarding a mobile video service. The invaluable experience we have gained in working with the content providers will be applied to our preparations for a potential commercial launch later this year.” commented James Parton, head of video services for O2
