Phone Today review

Posted on 17-Jan-2003 01:38 by M Freitas | Filed under: Reviews

I found Phone Today a very cool plugin for my Today screen.  The program uses a Bluetooth connection between the Pocket PC and a mobile to collect information about its current status and displays the information in the Today area.

You can configure the program to open a continuous connection to your mobile, or open and close it at selected intervals.  Every time it polls the mobile, it'll check for new SMS, missed calls, battery status, GPRS and network status.  All this information is shown in your Today screen:

The program will use the Pocket PC notification system (the bubble) and let you know of new SMS, or when a network connection is acquired.  If you want, you can change the notification sound (and the software comes with some good sounds!)

You can configure your SMS program and when notified of new SMS you can open it automatically. Because the SMS program is likely to use the same Bluetooth connection, Phone Today will disable itself, to avoid conflicts.

There's a manual refresh option as well, which is great if you don't want the Bluetooth mobile to be in use - great if you use the mobile with your notebook, for instance, or with a headset.

There's a new version in their website, which includes now a Call Log... I'll try this later and let you know!

The new version of this software has a Call Log. you can check your incoming, outgoing and missed calls from your Pocket PC. Quite handy, for US$ 5.50 (Paypal payments accepted).
