The geek.nz 2LD (second-level domain) will become available from 26th August 2003 11am on a first-come, first-served basis. It'll operate like other open 2LDs (for example .co.nz, .net.nz and .org.nz) in the .nz domain name space.
The Council of InternetNZ endorsed the creation of the new second level domain '.geek.nz' at its meeting on Friday 4 July.
The application came originally from Dean Pemberton, received in August 2002. InternetNZ, the manager of '.nz', has since undertaken a major consultation with the wider Internet community which saw over 90% support for the new domain in a straw poll in March 2003, followed by a number of submissions, mostly in support of the proposal.
