Mobipay providing mobile payment for taxis in Spain

Posted on 16-Aug-2003 10:46 | Filed under: News

Mobipay España signed an agreement with 10,000 taxis in 20 cities. Payment can be sent via SMS, with a confirmation being resquested so the mobile user can authorise the amount to be debited from the mobile balance.

Mobipay already had thousands of merchants in Spain, including about 2,000 retail stores and about 2,800 Spanish internet merchants. It also launched the first mobile solution for Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode payments in December 2002. Banco Santander (SCH), BBVA and Caja Madrid, among others, have since chosen Mobipay as the solution to authorise these payments, allowing Mobipay consumers to pay at about 40,000 international internet merchants.

Mobipay is owned Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) and Santander Central Hispano (SCH) as well as all Spanish mobile operators Telefónica Móviles, Vodafone and Amena.
