The German mobile carrier O2 is set to turn on its 3G network on 17th November. First quarter 2004 is the earliest for a soft launch, with 1,000 test users. The service will not be marketed hravily until Christmas 2004, according to its CEO Rudolf Gröger.
From 15th September O2 is offering data services (including its O2 Active Portal and e-mail) for a a flat rate of EUR 4.95 a month. Email-only access will be charged at EUR 2.95 a month.
O2 expects to see an uptake of data services for mobile users, from the current 20% to around 45%.
