More from the "patents that will create confusion and reduce end user options in the future" department: a patent for a "body worn mobile computer that is activated using speech, eye, and/or brain activation and having an attachment mechanism to attach the device to the user."
Does it mean that voice activated dialing, when used in a Pocket PC is under this patent? What about smartphones running Symbian, where voice dialing is already in place?
Their product list is quite impressive: a head mounted LCD display, wearable educational computer, and other products suitable for enterprise use.
The press release says: "... the company has been granted a new patent by the European Patent Organization (EPO). The patent has been granted as European Patent No. 0 962 853 and corresponds to one of the Company's basic U.S. patents No. 6,304,459 of the same title -- "Mobile Computer."
This newest patent grant identifies a body worn mobile computer that is activated using speech, eye, and/or brain activation and having an attachment mechanism to attach the device to the user. The computer is of a configuration having 6 sides (top, bottom, front, back and sides) whereby a portion of the computer adjacent to the user is constructed of a heat insulating material."
