Samsung exclusive Android partner for SKY GO
Posted on 23-Apr-2014 12:24 | Tags Filed under: News

Samsung has been named the exclusive Android partner for the Android launch of SKY GO, SKY’s new online and mobile service. Samsung smartphone users will be the first to experience ten live streamed channels through the soon to launch Android SKY GO app.

Director of IT and Mobile for Samsung, Josh Delgado, says this is great news for Samsung customers, who will be able to experience SKY GO before the rest of the Android market.

“We’re excited to partner with SKY to launch SKY GO on Android. Samsung is passionate about providing Kiwis with access to great content, and our partnership with SKY is a demonstration of this. Through SKY GO, our customers will be able to watch SKY’s premium content such as the FIFA World Cup, Super 15 Rugby and premiere movies anywhere, anytime via their Samsung smartphone.”

Ten channels can be accessed through the SKY GO app, including four LIVE sports channels; SKY Sport 1, 2, 3, and 4, SKY Movies Premiere, E!, UKTV, Cartoon Network, National Geographic and BBC World News. SKY has plans to increase the number of live streamed channels and introduce on demand content to mobile devices during 2014.

Kirsty Way, spokesperson for SKY, says they are excited to work with Samsung to offer customers more choice about how they view its programming.

“SKY GO is all about enabling New Zealanders to access fantastic entertainment, sport and news and more on-the-go. Kiwis’ lives are increasingly centred around their mobile devices, and SKY GO means customers can access premium programmes no matter where they are.

“However, not all smartphones are created equal and we wanted to ensure these features were first offered on the most advanced Android devices, making Samsung the best fit for the launch of the new app,” she said.

The partnership between SKY and Samsung comes not long after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5, and Mr Delgado says that timing couldn’t be better.

“The Samsung Galaxy S5, with its 5.1 inch screen and Full-HD resolution, will give SKY GO users the ultimate viewing experience. When combined with the faster network speeds and 4G being rolled-out nationwide, the Galaxy S5 makes streaming rich content, like SKY GO, a faster, sharper, and seamless experience.”

SKY GO was launched in December when iSKY rebranded as SKYGO.co.nz and the SKY GO app was launched.

Through SKY GO, customers can:
• Watch up to ten streamed channels (when subscribed to SKY Basic, SKY Sport and SKY Movies)
• Adapt streaming to suit their internet connection
• Monitor viewing hours on the tracker
• Browse a seven day electronic programme guide (EPG) for channels on the app
• Book recordings for current and future events through MY SKY
• Post about programmes via social media and e-mail
• Set and manage parental controls to keep content family friendly

At launch SKY GO will be available on:
• Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, S4, S5
• Samsung Galaxy Note II and Note III
• Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and 10.1
• Samsung Galaxy Tab 3
