Social app State releases updated app, goes global
Posted on 15-May-2014 09:50 | Tags Filed under: News

State launched a major mobile app update for iPhone today that now makes it easier for anyone to quickly State their opinions, get them counted and connect with others around the world who share their views.

The app features a new world map that shows global conversation unfolding in real-time for each topic, plotting clusters of like-minded people and instantly uniting them around issues they care about.

“We’re excited to see more people from around the world joining State since our launch,” said State co-founder Alex Asseily. “Based on community feedback, we learned people really want more nuanced insights and personal connections.”

State’s app and the State.com web platform are both designed to give a powerful voice to everyone. Today there are thousands of opinions from more than 100 countries on State, and that’s growing every day. With 25 million-plus topics covering a wide range of subjects -- from government and religion to tech, movies and science -- there’s something for everyone.

Opinions on State are organized by topic and hundreds of new topics are created every day. Each opinion on State is interactive: it generates instant feedback to the contributor, sparks conversation, relevant links and related topics. The network’s unique browser-based bookmarklet enables articles, video and photos to be connected to the network via an associated opinion, with one click. Social sharing of opinions to Facebook and Twitter is enabled through both the web and mobile versions of State. Insights that emerge from the global opinion network can be shared with companies, communities and organizations.

The company was co-founded by British-Lebanese entrepreneurs and brothers Alexander Asseily and Mark Asseily. Prior to State, Mark held early positions at Rebtel, Skype, and Moxi. Alexander founded the mobile lifestyle company Jawbone and continues to serves as the company’s Executive Chairman.

State’s Board of Advisors includes Web creator Tim Berners-Lee, Upworthy co-founder Eli Pariser, Nigel Shadbolt, University of Southampton Professor of Computer Science and artificial intelligence expert; Troy Carter, founder and CEO of Atom Factory; and Dr. Deepak Chopra, global thought leader and best-selling author, among others.
