iPod Bluetooth transmitter to be in the market by 2004
Posted on 1-Nov-2003 00:14 | Tags Filed under: News

ExtremeTech published an article about a new Apple iPod add-on by XtremeMac that will allow broadcasting music to nearby headsets, stereos or portable speakers over Bluetooth.

The product uses technology from Infinite Range, called RangeScan. This solution enables consumer electronic device manufacturers to make audio devices wireless, portable, and interoperable with a wide range of other devices with high fidelity, CD quality sound.

Infinite Range licenses RangeScan for use as a generic cable replacement solution in computers, PocketPC, PDA, CD players, MP3 players, headphones, speakers and other devices. RangeScan is based on a Bluetooth profile called the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) developed specifically for high quality audio streaming.

I expect to see more of this in home solutions. I'd love to connect my speakers (all of them around the lounge with long wires connecting to the Dolby Digital/DTS receiver) without any wires . And think about using this on Pocket PCs?
