The Mobile Data Association (MDA) announced that the total number of chargeable person-to-person text messages sent across the four UK GSM networks reached 1.73 billion during September 2003. September's figure marks the highest monthly total since the MDA began collating data on behalf of the UK network operators in 1998.
The UK daily average figure for September stands at 58 million, compared to 48 in September 2002 and 36 in September 2001. September's figures takes the cumulative total for 2003 to 15 billion, against a 12 month MDA forecast for the year of 20 billion, allowing for seasonal trends.
WAP is also growing, thanks to lifestyle services based on this standard, like Vodafone Live! and ringtones downloads. The total number of page impressions viewed in the UK during September 2003 was 898 million, a rise of 14 million on last month's figure. This figure, from GSM Network operators O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone, takes the daily average to 30 million, compared to 11 million per day in September 2002.
