Vodafone NZ has a cool service: you can send a text message to a special number, and receive back a UV report!
Vodafone and the Cancer Society bring this free UV Index text updates.
How it works? Send a blank text message, or a text message containing a number from the 24-hour clock, to 88 then your area telephone code (eg '8809' if you live in Auckland or if it's 1pm, you live in Wellington and you want to check out if you might burn at lunchtime, send '1300' to 8804).
The reply will look something like this:
From Vdfn - Crnt UV Index 4 Wellington 4.6 Mod
Very cool service, it's free, and it's a good reminder to protect yourself from the UV rays - very strong in New Zealand!
