Treasure hunt wi-fi style in Auckland
A wi-fi enthusiast web site is organising a treasure hunt competition in Auckland.

Each team "war drives" around an area looking for wireless access points. When an access point is found they will be given a clue (in the SSID) of where to find the next access point. The team to find all the access points the fastest will win a prize. There will also be a prize for the team to get the best signal strength from the access points.

The event is to be held on the 7th of December 2003, starting at noon.

Each group will need the following:

  • A laptop or portable device that can scan for wireless networks.
  • A program like Netstumbler or Kismit (or similar), that can scan for wireless networks.
  • A copy of Wises map of Auckland.
  • An external aerial with pigtail that connects to your portable device (optional). This will make finding wireless networks easier.
  • A car or some form of transport.

    Entries cost NZ$10 per team.
