A stationary competitior for the MSN Direct SPOT watches?
The same folks who developed the Ambient Orb are now offering the Executive Dashboard. It receives information from the Ambient Information Network, pretty much like the MSN Direct service.

The ambient device is a wireless object that presents information. According to their FAQ these objects allow information to be easy to access yet non-obtrusive, like a clock on your wall. They can be wearable like a watch, carry-able like a pen, or installed like a lamp. They communicate via subtle changes in color, angle, size, motion, sound.

The devices can show summary information for anything available on the world wide web. The user configures the device using any computer or telephone and information is then received through wireless signals from the Ambient Information Network, a US nationwide wireless network that works like a cellphone or pager to send information to Ambient devices. It can be configured at myambient.com or by phone.

The device is not attached to a computer at all, and uses an old style analog display to show digital information.
