Mobile navigation for PDAs and smartphones from Navigon
Navigon has established a reputation supplying navigation and map software for handhelds. The company is now focusing on the smartphone market with new navigation solutions and location based services (LBS) for this segment of the mobile market.

The company will show customised navigation solutions and location based services for mobile phones during the CeBIT 2004.

On the smartphone edition users can enter destination using the mobile phone keypad. This request, alongside the current location captured from a GPS receiver is sent to a server where the required route is calculated and sent back to the mobile device. All the communications is performed over a GPRS conneciton.

"User-orientation and a convenient route tracing were our top priority for mobile phone navigation," explained Philipp Hess, Head of Mobile Internet, "we, therefore, spent a lot of time on development to launch a genuinely mature product."

The applications are developed for mobile phone manufacturers, mobile phone operators and service providers. Maps are supplied through a partnership with MapSolute.
