Since 2007, the Open Source Awards have recognised and celebrated the outstanding work done with free and open source software and the artistic, scientific, and social outcomes it delivers in New
Zealand.
The NZOSA is New Zealand's premier event recognising the immense value that open source and its contributors deliver for our communities, and will go ahead in the third quarter this year after being postponed in 2020 due to Covid-19.
Nominations for the 2021 awards are now open for the best use of open-source in the following categories: Business, Education, Government, Art, and Science. There are also awards for Best Project and Best Contributor. A selection of nominees is then entered into the People's Choice Award.
Nominations for the awards are made by members of the open source community, including businesses, government agencies, individuals, community groups and more.
For New Zealand, free and open source technologies not only represents an opportunity to contribute and be recognised on the world stage but also to deliver a real competitive advantage. Encouraging collaboration, openness, honesty and transparency allow for more effective tools and software to evolve, helping people, communities, and organisations to meet the challenges they face.
New Zealand's open source community will gather at a gala dinner for the awards at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa on Tuesday 26 October 2021, to celebrate the businesses, projects and individuals that have been recognised by their peers as representing the best open source endeavours over the last three years.
Nominations close on 15 June 2021.
