The i-mode Effect
On 30 October 2003, i-mode subscribers surpassed the 40 million mark in Japan, only 4 years and 8 months after its launch in February 1999. This means that one in every three people in Japan now uses the i-mode service. It certainly can be said that the world has never seen a service spread as rapidly and widely in such a short time as the i-mode service.

In just under 5 years, the communications style of sending and receiving e-mail by mobile phone, or gathering information and enjoying shopping via mobile phone websites, have become widespread. Approximately 10 "mobile phone e-mail" are sent per person each day, making such communications an indispensable part of daily life. And with the spread of an unprecedented tool of communication, the "mobile phone Internet", there have been significant changes in the way people think and live.

NTT DoCoMo has published a report looking at various studies about this new style of communication:

1. The impact of the i-mode service
2. Functionality that supports the development of i-mode
3. Problems faced by the i-mode service / Eliminating Spam E-mail / The struggles of DoCoMo's Anti-spam Team
4. The evolution of the i-mode service continues (Business Application Cases) PIA Corporation/ Visa International / Coca Cola (Japan) Company, Limited
