Controllers are controllers, right? I mean, if they have the buttons and triggers you need, they are all the same, surely? Actually, no, this is not always the case. For example, we have recently received a Microsoft Xbox Series X for review here and had plenty of time to experience the original wireless controller. Then we had the RIG Nacon Pro Compact controller for Xbox arrive.
This little controller has all the buttons you need to play your games on an Xbox console, plus some features I see as advantages.
First it's smaller than the original controller - about 15% smaller, which doesn't sound like much but in reality, it sits pretty well on smaller hands. It is also about 1/3 lighter than the original keyboard, making it 200 g against the 300 g of the Xbox wireless controller. Combined with the textured underside, the RIG Nacon Pro Compact controller for Xbox is veru comfortable to hold.
Another feature that might be important for serious gamers is the "wired" part of it. The RIG Nacon Pro Compact controller for Xbox comes with a 300 cm USB-A cable. This means it is powered by your console (or Windows computer) so you never risk running out of batteries during that most important part of the game.
Believe me, this happens and again my daughter can confirm it as I got home one day and saw she was using this controller to play, while the original one was put to the side. When I asked her why was that, she mentioned the other one ran out of battery power.
To me, this was the revelation of this controller's best feature for some users.
The Xbox, View, Share and Menu buttons are in slightly different positions from the original Xbox controller but still on the front and easily accessible due to the controller's size.
The Action buttons (A, B, X, Y) are slightly larger than the ones in the original Xbox Series X controllers too. I thought it made it easier to play.
The RIG Nacon Pro Compact controller for Xbox has a companion app downloadable from the Xbox or Windows 10 Store. With this app you can completely customise your controller. It allows you to modify the response curve for the sticks as well as their dead zones. You can also modify the dead zones for the triggers as well as enable or disable vibrations. The app also allows switching the D-Pad between 8-way and 4-way profiles.
The app has pre-defined response curve/dead zones for different types of games, including sports, FPS, Snipper and penetration games.
These controllers are responsive and accurate as you would expect from a wired accessory - which makes them great for competitive gaming.
But that's not all. The RIG Nacon Pro Compact controller for Xbox comes with a built-in 3.5" audio jack so you can plug your wired headphones directly into the controller. To take full advantage of this, the package includes a Dolby Atmos activation code. This code is active for your whole Microsoft account so you can have the benefits on any console or computer using your Microsoft account. Once Dolby Atmos is activated you can customise audio settings through the Dolby Access app. The result is a much more immersive and satisfying game experience for you.
Yes, I totally recommend these controllers.
