Motorola launches a GSM/CDMA mobile phone
Motorola introduced the A840, one of the first mobile handsets to combine both CDMA and GSM technologies. The Motorola A840 allows users to roam seamlessly from CDMA to GSM and vice-versa.

The Motorola A840 handset combines 800/1900 CDMA, CDMA 1X and 900/1800 GSM, GPRS modes with seamless network switching. The company promisses that with the model A840 users can access the same content over GPRS as they would over a CDMA network.

The new mobile is packaged in a clamshell design with an integrated MP3 player, removable Trans-Flash memory, 2.2-inch colour display, speaker-independent speech recognition, and 1.2 megapixel integrated camera.

The Motorola A840 is expected to be available in North America in the second half of 2004.
