No more noise in New York City?

Posted on 13-Feb-2003 23:04 | Filed under: News

NBC reports that the City Council's 38-5 vote, with two abstentions, overrode a veto on the bill by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has maintained that the legislation is unnecessary and unenforceable.

Cellphones are to be banned from concerts, movies, plays, lectures, dance performances, museums, libraries and galleries. Talking on a cell phone, dialing, listening, or even having one ring during a performance would constitute a violation -- and a $50 fine.

The report says the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association lobbied against the bill, saying cell phone etiquette should not be legislated.

Now, how is this going to be enforced?
