Bluetooth in the courtroom

Posted on 22-Apr-2004 08:18 | Filed under: News

Stenograph LLC has decided to offer Socket’s Cordless Serial Adapter (CSA) with Bluetooth to Stenograph’s worldwide customer base of professional court reporters. The company is the leading developer of computer aided transcription (CAT) software. Case CATalyst, a 32-bit Windows CAT product, is used by more than 11,000 professional court reporters.

During a courtroom trial, a court reporter writes everything that is being said during testimony with a shorthand machine that is connected to her notebook computer. Currently, these connections are made using a myriad of cables. By attaching a Socket CSA onto Stenograph’s advanced shorthand writing machines and Bluetooth enabling the reporter’s notebook computer with Socket’s CompactFlash Card with Bluetooth Wireless Technology or a Bluetooth USB dongle, the connection between the devices become wireless, eliminating the need for cables.

Included in Stenograph’s Cordless Serial package is a Socket CompactFlash card with Bluetooth Wireless Technology, allowing for an encrypted point-to-point connection between the court reporter’s shorthand machine and computer. Stenograph expects to have the Cordless Serial package available late Spring of 2004.
