OPPO Challenges Market Leaders With New RENO12 Smartphones

OPPO has announced the latest additions to its popular Reno series, launching two new AI Phones in New Zealand: the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro.

It’s the first major release after OPPO pledges to bring AI Phones to a broader audience, which was outlined earlier this year and supported by other partners, including Google and Microsoft.

“Currently, the small number of existing AI phones are targeted at the upper end of the market with a hefty price tag to match,” says OPPO NZ Country Manager Morgan Halim.
“OPPO is a challenger brand in the New Zealand market that seeks to bring advanced AI capabilities to many more people, empowering them with our exceptional products at competitive pricing.”

Designed to unlock new realms of productivity and creativity for everyday users, the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro feature the series’ longest battery life, fastest charging yet, the most robust hardware, and the best power efficiency.

They also introduce a suite of Generative AI features to explore.

These include the AI Portrait Expert, with a host of updated photo enhancements, the AI Toolbox with powerful recognition capabilities for quick social media content creation or summaries for lengthy articles, and a new AI Recording Summary tool to extract and organise text summaries from a voice record intelligently.

This phone will appeal to creative enthusiasts, whether they’re using it for photography, content creation, gaming or social media sharing.

The main camera has a Sony LYT-600 sensor, offering faster and more stable focusing for clearer shots. Both models also feature a Portrait Mode with up to 2x zoom, and a 50MP Telephoto portrait camera offering up to 2x optical zoom, plus a new 50MP selfie camera.

In New Zealand, the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro are each available in two designs: Astro Silver fluid ripple and the more classic Black Brown for the Reno12, and the Reno12 Pro comes in rippling Nebula Silver or streamlined Nebula Black.

The Reno12 and Reno12 Pro have the longest battery life and fastest charging of a Reno Series phone, charging from 1% to 32% in ten minutes, and only 46 minutes needed for a full 100% charge.

Structurally, it’s the Reno series’ most robust device yet, with a high-strength alloy framework that offers enhanced protection against drops, pressure, and water and ultra-tough glass on the screen.

The OPPO Reno12 retails at NZ$799, and the OPPO Reno12 Pro retails at NZ$1099.
