The fully electric Volvo EX90 has made its New Zealand debut, marking a significant milestone for Volvo and a major addition to NordEast Vehicle Distributors’ growing premium electrified portfolio.
Awarded World Luxury Car of the Year 2025 by the World Car Awards jury, Volvo’s new flagship SUV, the EX90 is a true seven-seater that combines next-generation computing, advanced safety technology and Scandinavian design to deliver a premium electric driving experience designed for modern New Zealand families.
Daile Stephens, Brand Manager for Volvo Cars New Zealand, says that the arrival of the EX90 in New Zealand represents an exciting new chapter for Volvo. “New Zealand families want a vehicle that can do it all, daily school runs, weekend sport, long holiday road trips and everything in between. The EX90 is designed for that lifestyle. It gives Kiwi drivers the space and flexibility of a true seven-seater, the confidence of Volvo safety, and the electric range to make every day driving and longer journeys feel easy.”
“It’s spacious, beautifully designed and packed with technology that will continue to evolve over time, making it a compelling new option for drivers wanting a premium SUV that fits seamlessly into modern New Zealand life.”
Set to arrive at Volvo Showrooms in early April 2026, the Volvo EX90 delivers up to 600 kilometres of driving range (WLTP) and can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 22 minutes. The Ultra Twin Motor Performance variant produces up to 500kW and 870Nm of torque, delivering strong performance while maintaining the refined driving characteristics expected of Volvo’s flagship SUV.
The EX90 is Volvo’s first fully software-defined vehicle, built on a next-generation core computing platform and software stack developed in-house by Volvo engineers. The vehicle’s centralised computing system manages everything from safety and infotainment to battery management and is designed to continuously improve through over-the-air software updates, allowing new features and enhancements to be introduced over time.
Inside the cabin, the EX90 features a 14.5-inch infotainment system with Google built in, providing seamless access to Google Maps navigation, Google Assistant and apps via the Google Play Store. Wireless Apple CarPlay is also supported, while standard connectivity enables drivers to stay connected on the move.
Music and entertainment are delivered through what may be Volvo’s most advanced sound system yet, developed with Bowers & Wilkins and featuring Dolby Atmos immersive audio. The system also includes Abbey Road Studios Mode, allowing occupants to experience sound profiles inspired by the legendary London recording studio.
The EX90 showcases the brand’s Scandinavian design philosophy, combining clean lines, modern proportions and a calm, minimalist interior with natural and responsibly sourced materials. The thoughtfully designed interior layout also ensures generous comfort across all three rows, reinforcing the EX90’s role as a premium seven-seat family SUV.
The EX90 also includes hardware enabling future bi-directional charging, allowing the vehicle to supply energy to a home or other devices.
