The company is preparing to make front to competition with new SkypeOut program.
The SkypeOut service is not available yet, but a page on Skype's web store tells us about the service. Also, a new version of Skype software (pictured) is available for download on the Skype forum. This new version (0.98.0.28) adds a new tab to the known UI, with a dialpad and a field that accepts either a Skype user name or a standard telephone number.
The on-line web store also provides a list of valid destinations for SkypeOut calls, and a price list. Price for the main 25 destinations is 0.012/minute, but this is not final.
Competitor Stanaphone is currently providing up to 100 free minutes per month for VoIP calls to landline in select countries, with competitive rates after these minutes are used. Stanaphone users are also assigned a valid US number, meaning that when on-line the softphone is also able to receive phone calls coming from the POTS.
