Liverpool HIV Pharmacology Group announced the launch of their HIV-Charts2go application for Palm and Windows Mobile Pocket PC devices. HIV-Charts2go allows HIV-treating physicians to have on-hand the most up-to-date and user-friendly medication interaction information wherever they may go, without having to access an internet connection point.
Professor David Back, head of LHPG and an international expert in HIV clinical pharmacology, commented, "We are delighted to be able to provide this comprehensive HIV medication interaction resource in a convenient, mobile PDA format. HIV-Charts2go will be invaluable for physicians who are often in isolated consulting rooms, on ward rounds, attending off-site patient consultations and satellite clinics, or otherwise unable to access internet services".
HIV-Charts2go will be a key mobile reference tool for physicians in today's HIV clinical management environment, where patients are receiving complex combinations of antiretroviral medications, frequently in addition to other medications for treatment of co-existing conditions. Although many of these medication combinations do not interact significantly in vivo, others may interact unfavourably, potentially impairing treatment efficacy, and even affecting patient safety.
The dynamically-driven process behind HIV-Charts2go allows customised selection from a wealth of detailed information on predicted interactions, along with available substantive data. Physicians therefore have comprehensive information at their fingertips to advise them on which medication combinations may be appropriate, which should not be considered, and which should be used with caution (perhaps requiring adjustments to dosage or time of administration).
