Users in our forums previously reported on a cracked version of Series 60-based game Mosquitos sending SMS to premium numbers without the user's knowledge. The first reports date back to March 2004, one of the first posts about this behavior. Since then the game was analysed by experts that determined the mechanism used and other characteristics of this cracked version.
Controversy ensued later when websites reported that ojom.com, the company behind the original game development, actually inserted this feature as a copy protection feature. This can not be confirmed because so far the company did not issue an official note on this.
Kiwi company SimWorks have updated their Symbian Anti-Virus program to identify and remove the Mosquitos program from Series 60 smartphones. This software was one of the first in the market to detect a previously reported worm (CABIR). The program comes in two versions, one compatible with all phones using the Symbian operating system with the 127963 UIQ (SonyEricsson P800/P900/P910) interface or 127965 Series 60 (Nokia 3650, Nokia 6600, Sendo X).
