WAP still kicking: 1.1 billion WAP pages served in June 2004

Posted on 24-Aug-2004 00:36 | Filed under: News

According to the Mobile Data Association, June 2004 has seen a considerable increase of 42% in its recorded number of WAP pages viewed compared with the same period in 2003. This takes the total for the second quarter of 2004 to 4 billion.

In what is traditionally a quieter time as people pack their suitcases, the total from GSM Network operators O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone, shows figures have climbed from 784 million WAP page impressions viewed in the UK during June 2003 to 1.11 billion in June 2004.

Most users are unaware that these mobile operators offer portal access to content through WAP based services, like O2 Active and Vodafone live!

Allowing for seasonal differences, the MDA forecasts continued growth with WAP page impressions expected to reach a total of 13 billion for 2004.
